Rhode Island Public Records
In Rhode Island, vital records are confidential. Only after 50 years for death records and 100 years for birth records do they become Rhode Island public records, available at city/town hall or the Rhode Island State Archives. Copies of confidential records are available to family only at the Department of Health State Office of Vital Records, and at the local city/town clerk offices. These offices also have records of marriages, which are Rhode Island public records. Court records, which include divorce proceedings, are also public records and are maintained under the auspices of the Office of the Rhode Island Court Administrator.
