The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts maintains court records for the Supreme Court, the Court of Appeals, and the superior, district, business and family courts. The Superior Court has jurisdiction for all civil and criminal cases, with more limited jurisdiction by the district courts. The application form for the Clerk of Courts usually requires relationship and reasons for the copy request. A county court directory is on the website of the North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts.

Copies of public record court documents are obtained from the clerk of court in the specific court where the case was filed. The North Carolina Administrative Office of the Courts initiated an eFiling system in the superior courts of Chowan, Davidson, and Wake counties in 2009 with a goal of full and mandatory implementation in all 100 counties by 2012. Case summary information for all cases in the eFiling system will be viewable by anyone with an account. |
