About This Office:
The Bureau of Criminal Identification and Information (BCII) is part of the Louisiana State Police. The BCII is responsible for maintaining the Louisiana Computerized Criminal History system, which contains every arrest record, disposition and incarceration record for the state. BCII is also responsible for the sex offender registry and the Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS).

Approved agencies may request a background check online or by mail. The appropriate application must be filled out and the fee of $26 remitted. An additional $10 fee is added for fingerprint-based searches. Individuals wishing to review personal records will be fingerprinted and must pay $10.
Access To Louisiana Criminal Records:
Louisiana is a closed records state, meaning that Louisiana criminal records are not available to the general public. Individuals wishing to review their own criminal record may not receive a copy, but may review and copy any necessary information at your local State Police office. Louisiana inmate lookup is performed only by phone through DOC. Anyone may call (225) 383-4580 and access the Offender Locator system over the phone, but users must know the DOC ID number or name and date of birth. This system is updated daily. Victims may access LAVNS online or by phone, which is operated by VINE (Victim Information and Notification Everyday) to receive offender status and records.

The DOC does make every effort to equip the public and victims of crimes with inmate information. Inmate records considered public record include facility location, conviction information, offender status in the system and a projected release date.
