About This Office:
The New Mexico State Central Repository for Criminal History, overseen by the Department of Public Safety (DPS), gathers and stores all arrest records for the state. DPS also oversees the State Police, Gang Task Force, Special Investigation Division, and the Law Enforcement Academy.
Criminal Records At This Office:
Individuals wishing to review their personal criminal records must complete an authorization for release of information form because New Mexico law states that individuals must have criminal records released to counsel or to an authorized agent for review. The form must be notarized and a fee of $12 remitted. This allows all adult criminal records to be released.
Access To New Mexico Criminal Records:
New Mexico criminal records stored include arrests for felonies, misdemeanors and DWIs. Criminal records are not considered public information and are restricted to authorized criminal justice agencies, authorized individuals for criminal justice purposes and to individuals requesting personal criminal records. Individuals must release personal criminal records to an authorized third party, however.

About This Office:
The New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) oversees six state prisons and four private prisons. Nine of these correctional facilities house male inmates. NMCD prisons are all accredited by the American Correctional Association or in the process of being audited for accreditation. NMCD also sponsors community-based supervision for released offenders or those on probation or parole, including education and training programs.
Inmate Records At This Office:
The public may perform New Mexico inmate lookup using NMCD’s online search system. Simply enter the NMCD identification number or enter the name of the offender. Victims who wish to learn an offender’s projected release date may call or write to NMCD Victims Services, Adult Prisons Division, for this information.
Access To New Mexico Inmate Records:
NMCD provides the public with access to certain inmate records deemed public by state law. New Mexico inmate lookup will return results that include full name, date of birth, location of incarceration, photo, type of offense, and supervision status (i.e. inmate or on parole).

The DPS endeavors to make New Mexico a safer place for its citizens by combining law enforcement divisions and transportation division with emergency management to better manage all facets of keeping the public safe.
Background Checks At This Office:
New Mexico background checks may be obtained by the person on record or released to a third party with permission from the individual on record. A New Mexico background check will reveal any DUI charges, misdemeanor or felony arrests in New Mexico. Juvenile criminal arrest records are not included, however.
Access to New Mexico Background Checks:
To request New Mexico criminal background checks, individuals must fill out the application form and have it notarized before mailing it in with the appropriate fee. The original form must be mailed, as no copies are accepted. Any criminal records found will be mailed to applicant, usually within fifteen business days.
