CRS operates a public and private online system for quick and easy access to criminal records using a name-based search. Searches cost $3 each plus a 2.25 percent processing fee per credit and a $.50 transaction fee for using a credit card. Individuals requesting personal records must be fingerprinted and complete a request form. The fee is $15 for mailed requests or, if fingerprints are taken electronically, an additional $9.95.

Access To Texas Criminal Records:

Texas criminal records include all arrests, disposition of cases and prosecutions for Class B misdemeanor offenses up to felonies. The general public may access criminal records that include convictions or deferred adjudications only. Authorized government, criminal justice agencies and private entities may view complete criminal records, as can an individual requesting a personal criminal history.

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ) oversees all offenders incarcerated in state jails, prisons and private correctional facilities and all offenders out on parole. TDCJ also oversees the Correctional Institutions Division, which manages pre-release, psychiatric, medical and transfer facilities, as well as the mentally retarded offender program.

Texas inmate lookup can be done online through Offender Information Search portal at TDCJ, by phone or email. Only general offender information is released, regardless of the method you use to obtain the information. Online searches are done using inmate ID number or a combination of name, race and sex. Telephone and email inquiries must include ID number or exact name and date of birth. Email requests must specify what information you seek, such as current incarceration details, offender location or incarceration history.

Access To Texas Inmate Records:

Inmate records are available, in a limited format, to the general public. Public inmate records include custody status, correctional facility location, projected release date and a description of offenses committed.

Texas background checks are available to the public and can be obtained using the Texas DPS online system. Individuals can look up personal criminal records or another person’s information. Texas criminal background checks will yield any arrests and resulting prosecution and disposition details from Class B misdemeanor charges up through felonies.

Access to Texas Background Checks:

In order to perform Texas background checks, users must create an account with the Computerized Criminal History System, which is free to activate. Search credits can be purchased by credit card or by mailed check. Once your account is activated, you can begin searching criminal records by full name and date of birth.
