Basic information about currently incarcerated inmates in a Virginia Department of Corrections (DOC) facility is available online through the state’s Offender Locator. Records may be retrieved by offender name or by DOC number. Limited information about inmates also may be obtained by phone by calling the Inmate Locator desk at the DOC. More extensive inmate records are available with the inmate’s permission by contacting the Central Criminal Records Manager. These requests must be made in writing.

The Virginia Department of Corrections does not charge a fee to members of the public to retrieve records through its online Offender Locator. There may be a nominal photocopying or postage fee to request records from the Central Criminal Records Manager.

The DOC’s online database includes records on currently incarcerated offenders only. Requests for archived records should be addressed in writing to the Central Criminal Records Manager.
