The Indiana Commission on Public Records assist the counties in maintaining Indiana public records. Birth, death, marriage, and divorce records are available from the county in which they were issued in person or by mail or telephone. Indiana public records for mortgages, liens, and other property transactions are also available from the county offices. The Indiana State Archives maintains older Indiana public records. These include government history, census, and immigration and naturalization records. The archives office also maintains many historical medical, military, and criminal records. Some of these records are available online, while others can be obtained in person, by mail, or by telephone.

Allen  County

Indiana's Allen County Department of Health is responsible for maintaining all vital records for Allen County, including birth, death and paternity records. Certified copies of birth and death certificates can be obtained in person, mail, or through an online service provided by VitalChek. The Clerk of Courts of Allen County maintains marriage records and court records.

Lake  County

Indiana's Lake County Recorder is responsible for maintaining and preserving all public records for Lake County, including: deeds, mortgages, liens, articles of incorporation, military discharges, assumed business names and other related documents. This office does not maintain any court orders, decrees, judgments, wills or death certificates.

Marion  County

Indiana's Marion County Vital Records Department maintains all birth records, death records, and health data for Marion County. In addition, the Vital Records Department is responsible for issuing birth and death certificates. The Vital Records Department, however, does not maintain marriage records; they can be obtained through the Marion County Clerk.
