Nebraska Public Records

Nebraska public records are the responsibility of the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Public Health, Vital Records. Birth and death records are private for 50 years but are then available for genealogical purposes by written request. Birth and death records date from 1904 and marriages and divorces from 1909, with some earlier birth/death records available in county ledgers, marriages in the Nebraska State Historical Society, and divorces at the district court. Court records are also in the public domain, and Nebraska public records date from the 1990s online through “JUSTICE”, with earlier records at the Nebraska State Historical Society.
