Records Available:

Alaska criminal records are available to “any person.” Public criminal records include any convictions and open criminal charges unless the records have been sealed. Approved criminal justice requests or employers may request Alaska criminal records that include all criminal charges and dispositions, even if no convictions resulted. Individuals may request their own complete criminal record.

Alaska  Court Record Availability

The state releases three types of records - Full Criminal History, Interested Person, and Any Person. Searches may be name-based or fingerprint-based. A Full History is only available to the subject or to government agencies.

Retrieving Records

The Alaska Department of Public Safety, Criminal Records and Identification (R&I) Bureau, acts as the repository of criminal justice records. According to Alaska state law, any person may submit a request for records by mailing or faxing a request with the individual’s name and/or fingerprints; however, the record subject must sign the form granting permission for access. Requests should be submitted on the department’s request form and sent to the Department of Safety in Anchorage.

Cost

The cost of obtaining a single criminal justice record is $20. The fee must be paid by check or money order and should be payable to the State of Alaska. Additional copies are $5 each.

Years Available

According to Alaska Department of Safety personnel, criminal justice information is available throughout an individual’s lifetime. The record subject must sign a form giving the requestor permission to access the records.
