About This Office:
The criminal records database is maintained by the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) Central Repository, which stores and disseminates all criminal records for the state. PSP also maintains a public access criminal history site.
Criminal Records At This Office:
PSP operates PATCH (Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History), an online system that allows both registered and non-registered users online access to criminal records. These are name-based searches only. Only law enforcement may conduct fingerprint searches. Registered users are typically businesses who frequently conduct criminal records checks. The fee is $10 per name. Individuals may also submit a request form by mail with a $10 fee per name.
Access To Pennsylvania Criminal Records:
Pennsylvania criminal records are considered public and are available upon request. Individuals may request their own criminal record or those of a third party. Employers, landlords, licensers and other state agencies may also request criminal records checks on third parties. Criminal records include all arrests that resulted in convictions in Pennsylvania.

The Department of Corrections (DOC) for Pennsylvania is responsible for over 51,000 inmates housed in 1 of 26 state prisons, a motivational boot camp, 1 of 14 community correction centers, and 1 of 40 contract facilities. DOC does not handle parole or probation, however, and does not oversee county prisons. The American Correctional Association did accredit the entire state prison system.

Users may conduct a Pennsylvania inmate lookup search online using PDOC’s online search system. Users can search using a myriad of search terms, including inmate ID number, name, gender, race, committing county, location, citizenship and age. Also, if users expect a large results page, they may request to sort the results according to race, name, inmate number or committing county.

Inmate records are available to the public and will include name and aliases, age, gender, race, complexion, height, date of birth, citizenship, current and permanent locations and committing county only. Conviction and sentence details are not listed.

To request Pennsylvania background checks, individuals may fill out the request form and remit it with payment by mail or may make the request online using PATCH (Pennsylvania Access to Criminal History). PATCH accepts requests from registered or non-registered users and accepts credit and debit card for payment. Any criminal records results will be mailed.
