Where To Access Criminal Records In Tennessee
About This Office:
The Information Systems Division is one of five under the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) and is responsible for gathering and maintaining all criminal records for the state. TBI also oversees the Drug Investigation Division, Criminal Investigation Division and Forensic Services Division.
Criminal Records At This Office:
TBI conducts name-based searches unless required by law to be fingerprinted prior to employment. TBI operates TORIS (Tennessee Open Records Information Services) for public access available electronically, by mail or by fax. Name-based searches cost $29 per name. A request form must be completed and can be submitted electronically to receive results via email or can be mailed or faxed as requested on the form.
Access To Tennessee Criminal Records:
Tennessee criminal records released include all felony and misdemeanor arrests supported by fingerprints. Even arrests where charges were dismissed will appear on the criminal record unless charges were expunged from the record. Individuals may request personal criminal records, as well as third party records.
How To Lookup Inmate & Incarceration Records In Tennessee
About This Office:
The Tennessee Department of Corrections (TDOC) is responsible for promoting public safety by incarcerating felony offenders and also by rehabilitating them as much as possible. TDOC oversees 14 state prisons and consistently maintains is national accredited status from American Correctional Association.
Inmate Records At This Office:
Victims, family and friends of the inmate or concerned citizens wishing to perform Tennessee inmate lookup may use the online system TOMIS (Tennessee Offender Management Information System) through TDOC. Users can search using inmate ID or state ID number or by entering name and race.
Access To Tennessee Inmate Records:
Tennessee inmate lookup will yield results that include the offender’s full name and any known aliases, date of birth, gender, race, supervision status, location of incarceration or probation, commencement of sentence, whether offender is eligible for parole and when, whether any parole hearings are scheduled, result of the hearing, and the maximum sentence end date. Results are for offenders committing felonies only.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation Information Systems Division is responsible for maintaining the stateâ€™s central repository for criminal records. Criminal records entered into the database are supported by fingerprints, also maintained by TBI. In addition to providing criminal records to the public and law enforcement, they also provide forensic services.
Background Checks At This Office:
Tennessee background checks performed for individuals under the open records policy of the state are name-based searches only. Individuals may request their own criminal history or that of another person. Results will include any misdemeanor or felony arrests and subsequent dispositions. Employers requesting a Tennessee criminal background check requires that fingerprints be taken for accuracy.
Access To Tennessee Background Records:
Name-based searches can be performed online using a credit card, and the results will be emailed. Name-based Tennessee background checks can also be requested by mail. A request form must be filled out with the subjectâ€™s full name, date of birth, race and gender and mailed with a fee to TBI.
