Authorized government, criminal justice agencies and private entities may view complete criminal records, as can an individual requesting a personal criminal history.

Access to Texas Court Records

Retrieving Records

The Texas Department of Public Safety Access and Dissemination Bureau maintains both a public criminal records website, which is accessible to any interested party, and a secure criminal records website, which is available only to legally authorized entities, government agencies, and law enforcement agencies. Members of the public may access the public criminal history database by creating a public user account. The Texas Department of Public Safety advises that the information available through a name-based search is not as comprehensive as the data retrieved from a fingerprint-based search.

Cost

Public database users can pay for criminal history searches using search credits. Public search credits cost $3 each, and secure search credits cost $1 each. Each search costs one credit. Depending on the payment method, an additional fee may apply.

Years Available

The Texas Department of Public Safety Access and Dissemination Bureau maintains criminal records throughout the record subject’s lifetime. Records are retained according to departmental requirements.
