About This Office:
Washington State Patrol Identification and Criminal History Section is responsible for gathering, storing and disseminating criminal records for the state. All Washington criminal records stored are fingerprint-based and include all arrest and disposition information for felonies and gross misdemeanors.
Criminal Records At This Office:
Criminal records searches are name-based, unless complete records are required via fingerprint search. Mailed name-based requests cost $17 per name, and online requests through WATCH (Washington Access to Criminal History) cost $10. WATCH is a public access site for conviction records only. Fingerprint searches cost $26 plus a $13 fingerprinting fee if done at the Washington State Patrol office. Fingerprints can be taken at local law enforcement agencies, but fees will vary.

Washington criminal records are public record, although only conviction records and sex offender status will be released to the general public. Individuals and approved state agencies, employers and law enforcement may obtain complete criminal records that include all dispositions and arrests, regardless of conviction.

The Washington Department of Corrections (DOC) is responsible for maintaining 13 prisons and 15 work release centers in addition to trying to reduce recidivism by instituting programs to rehabilitate prisoners successfully. A pilot project was instituted at two state prisons to raise fish and organic vegetables to reduce food costs and give the prisoners usable skills.

In order to access Washington inmate lookup search results, you can enter the DOC number or last name in the DOC search portal found online at their site. The results will appear in a window for all matches to your request. To receive notification, you must apply to victim services and register, and only offenders having committed a violent offense, sex offense, serious drug offense or felony harassment will qualify a victim for this service.
Access To Washington Inmate Records:
Washington inmate lookup will yield limited inmate records. The public is allowed to view an inmate’s DOC number, full name and location of incarceration. The victim services division of DOC allows victims, witnesses and concerned citizens access to an offender’s location and status within the system.

Individuals requesting Washington background checks will only receive public records, which include convictions, pending arrests less than a year old with no disposition available, and whether the subject is a registered sex offender.

Individuals may request Washington criminal background checks online using WATCH (Washington’s Access to Criminal History) and pay the fee with a credit card. Request forms can also be obtained through WATCH and be filled out online, printed and mailed. Individual’s should include the subject’s full name, aliases, and date of birth.
