Inmate records are only available to family and friends of inmates or to victims of crimes. The MDOC does not have the resources to provide inmate records to the public in general without a specific reason. Inmate records are available for offenders sentenced to a term longer than nine months and include location of facility, projected release date and status.
Access to Maine Court Records
Electronic records for adult inmates within the State of Maine Department of Corrections (MDOC) system are available through the state’s Prisoner/Probationer Search. This online search service may be accessed by the general public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The database includes records of offenders who are on probation as well as inmates who are incarcerated in MDOC facilities. Website users may search for inmates by MDOC number, name, date of birth, physical identifiers, location, and offense type.
There is no charge to the general public or law enforcement agencies for using the State of Maine Department of Corrections’ Prisoner/Probationer Search.
The MDOC database is updated daily, but timeliness of these records cannot be guaranteed. The MDOC can help criminal justice agents search for historical criminal records. Genealogists may find historical incarceration records at the Maine state library.
