  Newburg City Court of Orange County handles small claims, eviction and traffic violations. This court also handles traffic, housing, and misdemeanors, and civil actions which are under $15,000. Some records are restricted; youthful offender and records of sex abuse victims are sealed. Criminal records have been computerized since 1986. Civil records have been computerized since 1997. Earlier records are stored in docket books or on index cards. Newburgh City Court also has Specialty Court. Anyone requiring special services may contact Specialty Court.

  Port Jervis City Court of Orange County handles eviction and small claims cases, as well as misdemeanor and civil action cases under $15,000. No sealed documents such as juvenile, mental health, adoption or expunged records are released to the public. All records are kept for a certain number of years and then are destroyed. Records from criminal and civil court dockets from 1978 were computerized since 1996. To search for a file, you will need to provide the court record office with the name and date of birth of the person’s file you wish to locate.

Requests for searches may be made by mail or in person to the County Clerk. You will need to provide the clerk with the name and date of birth of the file you need. Criminal records have been computerized since 1993; earlier civil and criminal records are stored on Rolodex or index cards.

  Orange County Supreme and County Court handles all felony and civil cases. Search requests can be made directly or by fax to the County Clerk’s office. You will need to provide the name and birth date of belonging to the file you need. Criminal cases are handled at County Court, but all the files are kept at the County Clerk’s office. For criminal records, you can put your request for a search online. For civil records, you may send your request in a fax to 845-291-2595.
