Illinois Public Records

The Illinois Department of Public Health and Illinois Vital Records departments keep Illinois public records on births, deaths, civil unions, marriages, and dissolutions (divorces). Birth and death records are kept as far back as the year 1916. These records are usually available only to the people whose names are listed on them or to members of their immediate families. Copies of Illinois public records may also be available from the Circuit or County Clerks' offices for the areas in which they were issued. Most records are available in person. Most current county vital records are also available online.
