Kentucky Public Records

Kentucky public records include birth, marriage, and death vital records. Although state-wide registration was enacted for births/deaths in 1852, compliance was sporadic until 1911; these historical records are available at the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives and the Kentucky Historical Society. Records for 1911-present are obtained from the Office of Vital Statistics, at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services, by mail/phone, and through VitalChek for fax/online. There are no confidentiality restrictions for vital records. Divorce records are court records; copies should be requested of the appropriate clerk of court. All court records are Kentucky public records with minimal confidentiality restriction.
